Before 1900 

The heritage of Grasso starts well before 1900 with Willem Grasso. His allround manufacturing skills combined with a good solid business sense are the basis for our company today.
  • 1833: Willem Grasso born on 20th April 1833 in Tilburg, The Netherlands

  • 1858: At the age of 25 years Willem Grasso starts a forge-workshop in 's-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands

  • 1860: Grasso produces steam engines, tobacco benches, coffee processing machines, flax and stone forming machines

  • 1863: Grasso also produces machine tools

  • 1864: The manufacturing of steam boilers

  • 1865: Willem Grasso installs 2 horsepower-steam engines in his workshop, that will be replaced 3 years later by double the capacity

  • 1868: Willem Grasso builds a new factory (a steam engine factory and forge) and sells the 26th steam machine

  • 1869: The manufacturing of the steam hammer

  • 1878: 10 People are employed in this factory

  • 1880: Manufacturing of tools for the margarine industry

  • 1883: Son Henri Grasso follows a refrigeration course in Mittweida, Germany with the latest developments in that field

  • 1888: Willem Grasso calls the factory �steam engines and other tools" where, at that time, about 18 people worked with a workday of about 11 hours. A week's wage was arounded Euro 4,55.

  • 1889: Willem Grasso produces a steam engine with a capacity of 8 horsepower.

  • 1894: Henri Grasso, 30 years old, takes over the business from his father. Production starts of churn kneaders.

  • 1896: Henri Grasso moves the factory of butter/margarine machines from 's-Hertogenbosch to much larger premises at Vught, The Netherlands. The name of the factory is enormous: "'s-Hertogenbossche Machinefabriek Ketelmakerij en IJzer- en Metaalgieterij Henri Grasso". Henri has to provide 100 houses for his employees. In the same year Henri Grasso starts a department specializing in refrigeration engineering.
